A New Kind of Puppy Chow

Over the weekend, I tried a new recipe that I saw on Pinterest and originally came from the Six Sisters' Stuff blog! It's a new twist on Puppy Chow, and it's delicious!

Chex Funfetti Cake Batter Buddies

Ingredients:
5 cups Chex cereal
10 oz vanilla almond bark (6 squares)
1 1/2 cups Funfetti cake mix
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vegetable shortening

Directions:
1. Melt almond bark
2. Pour cereal into a large bowl and pour melted almond bark over cereal.
3. Mix cereal and almond bark until cereal is completely coated.
4. Dump cake mix and powdered sugar over cereal and mix until cereal is evenly coated.
5. Eat and Enjoy!

I doubled the batch, which I highly recommend! It's very addicting!!

Weekend Wonders

Here's the recap from my wonderful weekend!

Friday
Friday night Ryan and I got to go to the Nebraska volleyball game at the Coliseum. Even though the Huskers fought hard, they couldn't pull out the win. It was still fun to watch and afterwards, there was a neat ceremony for over 70 alumni that were at the game!

Go Big Red!

All the Alumni after the game.

Saturday
On Saturday, I got to start my morning off with a great kickboxing class at the fitness center. Then Ryan and I headed home for the weekend. We got to see some family, watched the Husker game with some friends and went to the local Haunted House.

The girls cheering on the Huskers!

Sunday
On Sunday, we lounged around and didn't do too much. We spent some time with Ryan's nieces and nephew, who are all adorable and so much fun! Then we watched the Husker volleyball team upset #1 Penn State in 5 sets, it was very exciting! Before heading back to our apartment, we stuck around to see  the little ones dressed up for Halloween (our hometown had trick or treating early because of a football game on Wednesday).

The cute little crocodile!

Haunted Houses

It's a week from Halloween, yeah! I can't say I'm a huge fan of dressing up, but I do love Halloween candy and all the cute Halloween decorations. Last weekend we went to a Haunted House, which I am not a fan of. I hate anything that scares me or makes me jump, but Ryan convinced me to go. It wasn't was bad as I expected, but I would rather not get spooked by crazy people in bloody costumes!

What I do love is watching Ellen because we get to laugh at other people getting scared! She makes me laugh when she sends her writers and guests to haunted houses and then puts the video on her show! This year, she even has a haunted hallway on her set!

Here's a couple hilarious videos, enjoy!

Do you like Haunted Houses?!?!

Belated Weekend Recap

Hello Everyone! It's Tuesday, so here's the recap of what I've been doing while absent from blogging the past few days...

Friday
Friday night, Ryan and I went on a double date with our friends Steve and Rachel. We started out the night with supper at Rock Bottom Brewery in downtown Omaha, which was delicious! After our supper, we went to a haunted house, Mystery Manor. It was a fun and scary night!

Ready to get scared!

Saturday
On Saturday I worked and then Ryan and I went back home to a wedding for our friends John and Cally! It was great to see a lot of our friends and we had a good time at the dance!

Sunday
Sunday I worked again and ended the long weekend with a beautiful mass! It was a great way to wind down and be at peace after a couple long days.

Monday/Tuesday
Monday I worked and then went home to my parents since I had Tuesday off. It was nice to be out in the country on the farm and able to relax! I was glad I got to spend some time with my parents, visit my friend Ash, and take this cute pup out for a walk!

Thanks for reading about my weekend!

Autumn Soup...yum!

Last night for supper, I tried a new soup recipe I got from one of my mom's friends, and it turned out delicious, so I thought I would share it with all of you! Fall is the perfect weather for soup!

It's called Autumn Soup and here is the recipe:
1 1/2 cups diced carrots
2 cups diced potatoes
1/2 cup diced celery
3 T chopped onion
1 cup water

1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup flour
2 cups milk

1/2 cup diced ham
1/2 lb velveeta cheese
1 tsp parsley (optional)
2 cups chicken broth
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper

First, combine the potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, and water in a pot and cook for about 10-15 minutes ( I didn't have any celery, so I didn't add that).

While that is cooking, in another pan, combine the butter, milk, and flour and mix often until thick.

Then, combine the two mixtures and add the ham, cheese, chicken broth, salt and pepper. Cook until cheese is melted and vegetables are tender.

 Serve and enjoy!

A Shoutout to the Girls

It's October mid-October already, half done with this month. This post is dedicated to all the girls out there...and to all of you women reading this, by girls, I mean...our breasts!

October is breast cancer awareness month, and so I wanted to share this on my blog! Although I have been blessed with healthy women in my family, I still know many friends that have been affected by breast cancer.

Here are a few facts that I got from: The National Breast Cancer Foundation (awesome website for more info if you want to learn more)

  • Breast cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death among women.
  • Each year it is estimated that over 220,000 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed and more than 40,000 will die

Since it is such a huge concern for women in our country, remember to do these things to help detect and/or prevent breast cancer:

  • Perform self-breast exams monthly, getting to know your breasts, so you can know what is normal and abnormal
  • Once you reach the age of 40, get a yearly mammogram (or earlier than 40 if breast cancer is in your family history)
  • Know the risk factors for breast cancer, some of which can be prevented and analyze your own risk
So, go out and do something to support breast cancer awareness! A month ago, I did a 5k run to support it! What are you going to do?? I challenge you to do something the rest of this month to support this growing cause for women, whether it's educating someone else, taking care of yourself by doing your self exam, getting a mammogram, making a donation, doing a run/walk or even wearing pink! Anything helps!

And...go check out The Daily Tay for an awesome giveaway she is doing! She is teaming up with a group of awesome bloggers for one huge giveaways! One of the wonderful sponsors is my friend at 3 Oh 1 Grace St.
